5 Practical Tips for Being More Present in the Moment

Being more present in the moment simply means that we don’t let worry overcome us and rob us of living our happiest lives in the here and now.

How many times have you been so caught up in what you’re doing that you don’t even realize that you’re doing it?

Have you ever looked down only to discover that you’ve eaten an entire bag of chips without even noticing it happening?

Have you ever spent a long time scrolling through social media, looking at cute pictures of cats, only to realize that hours have gone by?

Ever felt angry at someone for something they said or did, and realized that you were angry because of something that happened years ago?

Or felt anxious about your future, living every day in fear of what may or may not happen?

We all experience these things, and it’s important to know how to be present in the moment so they don’t happen again. Being present in the moment is one of the keys to becoming a happier and more content person.

When we fully take advantage of each moment, we give ourselves the greatest gift: our attention. One of the hardest things to do is stay focused on what’s happening around us—at home, at work, and in our relationships.

If you want to stop worrying about your past and focus on what is happening right now, then keep reading as I give you 5 practical tips for being more present in the moment.

In this blog post, we will discuss why mindfulness is so important for a happy and fulfilled life.

Here are 5 practical tips you can begin implementing today to live more in the present moment.

  1. Fully appreciate the moments of today - Soak in as much of the sights, the sounds, the smells, the emotions, the colors, nature.. These are in our daily lives but we often forget to take them in and truly appreciate them.
  2. Stop worrying - You can’t fully appreciate today if you worry too much about tomorrow. Realize that tomorrow is going to happen whether you worry about it or not. And since worry has never accomplished anything for anybody, redirect your mental energy elsewhere. Focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want.
  3. Don’t dwell on past accomplishments - If you are still talking about what you did yesterday, you haven’t done much today. There is still plenty of time to build upon past successes and create more memories and achievements for future you.
  4. Forgive past hurts - If you are harboring resentment towards another human being because of past hurts, choose to forgive and move on. The harm was their fault, but allowing it to impact your mood today is yours. Let go and choose to be present in the moment instead.
  5. Smile - Each day is full of endless possibilities! Start it with a smile. You are in control of your attitude every morning. Be intentional about it and you’ll find yourself doing it every day without even realizing it. Your smile can save someone’s life!

Many people don’t fully grasp the importance of living in the present moment.

If you aren’t living in the present moment, you may find yourself feeling sadness over a past event or worrying about how something will turn out in the future.

Our minds are magnificent machines. Unfortunately, it’s all too easy for them to get preoccupied with the past and anxious about the future.

This is one of the main reasons why learning how to be more present in the moment is so powerful. Being present doesn’t mean that we don’t experience concern.

It simply means that we don’t let worry overcome us and rob us of living our happiest lives in the here and now.

Being present is not as difficult as it sounds – though it does require practice and commitment.
